I cannot add an audio track

I have never been able to add an audio track using the contextual menu (bottom left of timeline). Is there a reason for this? I do get the required extra tracks adding themselves when I drop audio below the open tracks so it's not really a major problem, but I'm curious about why this feature isn't working. Any ideas please? thanks, Keith

This is how to trsh the prefernces:

Tom's link suggests repairing permissions and I'd do that as well while you are going.

I also set the default to 8 audio tracks rather than 4 which I had previously, but I can't see that this would make any difference

Did you do this from the FCE>User Prefernces>Timeline Options?
I can't see that being the cause but thaqt means means you nhave more thqan 8 audio tracks if you are adding more?

Thanks Al. I appreciate the notes you gave in the reference. I'll go through all the maintenance items to clean things up, and report back. Yes, I did use the timeline tab in settings to increase the default audio tracks to 8. I have tried opening a new project just to see if the "add track" works in that, but it doesn't.

I note that I cannot delete a track either, and resetting the panel (one of the choices in the contextual menu) appeared to make no difference. It's still a bit of a mystery. Keith
