Battery health down to 97% in just 4 months and 26 cycle count.

I just purchased my Macbook Air M1 2020 in July this year 2023. I have been using it every day for work. I noticed that its battery health is down to 97%. I keep it plug always. I use Microsoft Edge browser always with too many tabs, and a few other apps like Calendar, Notes, Spotify, Safari, WPS office, and time to time, Photoshops and other Adobe Apps. I only unplug the charger sometimes. And have the battery discharge from 10-30%. It shut down once due to discharge to 0%. Is the battery health normal at its cycle count and months of use given the laptop's use? Thank you for answering.

Are you using a third party monitoring tool to estimate battery health percentage?

When you go to  > System Settings > Battery, press the info button on the Battery Health and make sure you have both of these settings turned on:

  • Optimized Battery Charging
  • Manage Battery Longevity

It is not a problem leaving your MacBook plugged in and with Optimized Charging turned on it will learn your charging behavior and just charge until 80% until needed, or hold at 80% if left plugged in. The system will not allow the battery to be overcharged. It is never good to let the battery discharge to 0% if you can help it, but the Mac will shut off before the battery is drained completely to protect it.

Just make sure those settings are on and continue to use your Mac as you are. I would not expect any trouble with your battery.

Actually a couple of days ago the health was at 98%. I unplug to use it because I was away from the power source. When battery discharged to 30%, I plugged it back in. When it charged back to 100% percent I unplugged it. Used it again while unplug and discharge again to 30%. Then, yesterday, it was plugged the entire day. When I checked, I was surprised to see the health down to 97%.

No, I am not using third party tool to see the battery health percentage. I'm just looking at it the settings. I have kept Optimize Battery Charging from the beginning. It's always plugged and charges up to 100% always, but when it reaches 100% it says it's not charging and drawing power from the charger. Sometimes, it holds the charging up to %80.

Right now, it's plugged and the battery is at 100%. I look at System Information and it says it's not charging and is drawing power only from the charger.

Where do I see Manage Battery Longevity? I don't see it in the settings.

My Mac shutdown once to 0% discharge when I forgot to plug the charger.
