AirPods Pro connectivity issues (pair and L/R cutting in an out, case makes difference)

AirPods Pro stopped playing consistently through both ears this afternoon. It will occasionally connect to both, but the sound is choppy and quickly reverts to one ear only. Both AirPods are in the correct ears, but sound will only play through one most of the time now. If I house the one playing in the charging case, the one still in my ear will "connect" and begin playing. If I take the AirPod back out of the case and put it in my ear, it will not connect until I take out the other and put it in the case.

Updated to iOS 17.2 when I got home to see if it would help, but it has not changed anything. Same issue with my MacBook Air running Sonoma 14.1.2

I have turned off and on my phone several times, reconnected the AirPod Pros, and done a reset twice (held until it blinked amber and then white) but nothing has made a difference. I also thoroughly wiped down the AirPods and the case with isopropyl alcohol and a q-tip to clean any debris, as well as installing a new set of the Apple tips in case the older ones were the issue. AirPods and the charging case are both charged to 100% and both AirPods show that they are charging when placed in the case. Balance is set to middle setting and does not change if either AirPod (left or right) is the one "connected".

Any suggestions where to go from here to solve my issue?

Then you should get them serviced:

...

Choose one of the service options below to have your AirPods Pro serviced. Your AirPods Pro will be examined prior to any service to verify that they are eligible for this program. AirPods Pro (left, right or both) with a confirmed issue will be replaced. The AirPods Pro case is not affected and will not be replaced.
