TimeMachine has stopped backing up due to "Anti-virus software may be preventing Time Machine from writing to the backup"

I am having problems as the above noted title mentions. I've downloaded Sonoma 14.2 to my MacBook Air M1 a few weeks ago. I'm trying to do a more recent back up of my files on the LACie external hard drive and is not letting me.

Can someone help me figure out what I need to do so that I can complete an update today.

If you have antivirus software installed it should be removed using the vendor's uninstaller app to remove all of it. It will seriously slow down the computer and often causes additional problems such s yours. Also, it is not needed. Macs cannot be infected with a virus. Their OS is write protected and cannot be changed. Then restart the computer and see how it goes.

I don't have any widgets on my desktop (can't see them so why bother?). I had some in Notification Center, which I've removed. I checked for updates, restarted the computer, and it still tells me the same thing. It alternates between telling me that there is anti-virus software preventing the back up and this: Time Machine did not back up because the backup disk was previously encrypted but is no longer encrypted.

I have not encountered either of these two error messages when I previously ran a back up to the external LaCie hard drive.
