Problem with search function in Mail, System Settings, Notes, Calendar on new MacBook Pro (Sonoma 14.2)
Hi community,
as in the title, it is really frustrating that the search function is not working (especially for Mail and System Settings). I have what is supposed to be the top-notch 16'' MacBook Pro with the last update of Sonoma 14.2.
What do I mean with "it is not working"?
I mean that I put some text in the search field and nothing happens into Mail, just a brief flashing of the left settings list happens in the System Settings window (and then nothing happens), nothing pops up in the Calendar search results.
I tried all the possible solutions I could find on line:
- I stopped the indexing, restarted and reindexed the hard drive by using the privacy spotlight settings;
- I reindexed the search using the mdutil command in the terminal;
- I tried logging in and out of the iCloud account, restarting, shutting the computer off;
- I tried to rebuild the mailbox (Mailbox -> rebuild) into Mail;
- I tried to delete mail/system settings related files in the Library/Caches, Library/Container and few others;
- I tried to repeat these procedures in the safe mode;
- I tried to format and reinstall the system.
Just some more info:
- Spotlight seems to work fine;
- Sometimes (it is really random) the search functionality comes back and works (for a while), then it stops again;
- After the formatting everything was working until it stopped again. Between the two events I didn't really do much apart from configuring my work mail, changing some System Settings preferences (files view, dock, mouse.. preferences), installed a few programs (just mainstream popular software, nothing too mystic really).
- When the search is not working, it seems like Mail's activity window (Window->Activity) is stuck at the beginning (like 0.1%) forever. Not sure if this is related, but some other people pointed it out in some forum.
Well, I'll appreciate if someone can share their ideas! (Even more if Apple would fix the problem! :) )
Mauro.
