My old Mac mini Server is a late 2012 model with MacOS Catalina v.10.15.7. My MacBook pro is a 16-inch 2021 model with Sonoma 14.2. Question: How can I connect my MacBook to my Mac mini and use the latter as an external hard drive? Thanks.

mind you it would use a lot more power than a newer normal external harddisk
and if it's a magnetic hd rather than a ssd then it being from 2012 would mean it would not be a wise move to place data there you were not prepared to lose when the harddisk move on to the never ending bit fields

Being a 2012 and not really worth much, the best thing to do is probably just pull the drive out of it and put it in a 2.5" USB enclosure and recycle the rest.
But as @Rudegar has stated, if it is a hard drive and not an SSD, it's not a matter if it will fail but when. Being 11 years old that when is probably quite close.
