Help with connecting a Mid 2012 MacBook Pro to a HP USB-C dock.

there is no Dock that can 'manufacture' an additional display, and it looks to my eye like that Dock will NOT support a display for your older ThunderBolt-2 Macintosh

Form the tech specs:

• DVI output using Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter (sold separately)

• HDMI audio and video output using third-party Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter (sold separately)

That MBP has a Thunderbolt 1 port, with a Mini DisplayPort connector. The Apple Thunderbolt 3-to-2 converter is bi-directional, but it only converts Thunderbolt. I could be wrong, but I don't think it would work to connect a non-Thunderbolt USB-C dock.

A USB-A to USB-C converter would provide a USB connection but would not carry a DisplayPort video signal.

So how do you expect to connect a MacBook Pro without a USB-C port, to a HP USB-C dock that presumably is not a Thunderbolt dock?

Like Leroy, I would start with what HP says that dock model can do.

For security reasons, please do not post serial numbers here. I have made a modified copy of your screenshot that redacts the serial number in case others need to see your computer's "About..." info.
