My iPhone is set to ‘automatic updates’ but doesn't update automatically

My iPhone and iPad are set to ‘automatic updates’ in setting —— but don’t update automatically. They do tell me sometimes that they will update overnight, but some I need to actually download and install. Is this correct ??

Automatic Updates will not occur unless the phone is plugged into power, so that might be something to check.

Automatic Updates tend to also be on the slow side when a major update appears. It might take 3-4 days before the update is installed.

Automatic Updates have always worked for me, but if you don't want to wait the 3-4 days, go ahead and update manually.
