Desktop folder disappeared after update to 13.6.3

In early December I made the update from macos 13.6.2 (which worked without any problems) to 13.6.3 and immediately after the update my desktop was empty. I also cannot drag documents on the desktop anymore (then I get symbol of prohibition sign). My desktop documents appeared moved to new folder 'Desktop 2' in Documents.

In addition, in the preferences folder iCloud I can no longer turn on the "Desktop and Documents" folder (was on). It seems as if this software update cannot communicate correctly with a perhaps changed iCloud Drive.

Is there an error made by Apple in the update package 13.6.3, do others recognize this problem, is there a quick fix?

iMac 21.5″ 4K, macOS 13.6
