Logic Pro playback issue

I have a project file with 13 instrument tracks that I have been working with occasionally for the last few years. Yesterday I opened it for the first serious time since last Christmas, but encountered an issue during play back. Literally the piano track would cut in and out while playing. I assumed it was a memory issue, and increased the buffer to max without success. Then I noticed that was happening was the actual track was muting and unmuting for a small series of successive notes quite erratically every so often.

What I find confusing is that these notes are not shown as muted in the working score, but the mute button toggles on and off as the track plays. I'm thinking it must be something to do with MIDI, but I can't find anything.

I have even gone to the extent of deleting user prefs, plist files and doing a restart to no success. I'm using the latest version of Logic Pro on the latest version on macOS.

Thanks morozco ... your suggestion sent me in the right direction. Although I have no experience with automation, and still don't really understand their purpose — I have solved my problem. Changing from region to track didn't change anything. However, when I learned that I could click on the automation parameter pop-up menu and change the selection from volume (the default?) to mute, I 'saw' the source of the muting/unmuting problem. Then it was simply a matter of selecting the erase tool and clicking on the 'dot' that represented the change in mute.
