Should be not a big problem. I have put Linux Mint on an 2011/2012 21 inch iMac and more recently on a 2013 27 Inch Imac. Works. You should connect to the internet by ethernet, because the Wifi might not be recognized at first. After install, run the regular update and than head to the Settings / drivers section. ( I am Dutch, so I don't exactly know how that is called in English). If drivers are needed, it will be offered there to install them.

This reply has ben written on that 27" iMac 14,2, running Linux Mint. Mint is running better on this machine as MacOs with Opencore Legacy Patcher. That is why I use Linux Mint on this one.
