Assuming you have already tried turning the volume up, if you have the silent mode switch on, try switching it off. I've found sometimes, for some apps, sounds only play if the silent mode switch is off.
Hm sounds like a bug. Only thing I can think to try is fully turning the phone off and on again.

Unfortunately I’ve tried that too. Phone is just a couple months old.
