Galleries created using Juicebox / Lightroom plugin, Won't open locally in Safari

I have been using Juicebox Lite as a Lightroom Plug-In for years, very successfully, to make image Galleries that I can host to clients through AWS.

Former MacBook Pro - 15" 2016

OS Upgrade Limited to Mac OS 12.7.1 (Monterey)

Safari 17.1

New MacBook Pro - 14" 2023 M2-Max

Running Mac OS 14.1.2 (Sonoma)

Safari 17.1.2

Old MacBook can open any of the Galleries I have stored locally on my internal SSD with no issue.

New MacBook CANNOT open the Galleries LOCALLY, and shows this alert:  JuiceBox Error: Config File Not Found.

The same Galleries opened from the version stored on AWS opens fine on new MacBook, just an issue with opening them locally.

Seems like I'm missing a setting or something on the New MacBook.

Any ideas or suggestions to try?

Also, a Juicebox help / moderator suggested a fix that is probably out of date:

 The important section....

Safari (11 or later):
Pull down the 'Safari' menu and choose 'Preferences'.
Click on the 'Advanced' tab.
Check the box next to 'Show Develop menu in menu bar'.
Close 'Preferences'. The 'Develop' menu will now be visible between Bookmarks and Window menus.
Pull down the 'Develop' menu and choose 'Disable Local File Restrictions'.

.... is out of date for a new Mac running OS 14 Sonoma and new version of Safari. Those menus and options as described above, are not there.

Solution from Steven at JuiceBox:

(1) Choose Safari > Settings

(2) Click Advanced

(3) Select "Show features for web developers."

There should then be a Developer pane in the settings from which you can select 'Security -> Disable local file restrictions'.

Here's a graphic description of what he is talking about -- and this fixes the issue.

It seems like you're facing an issue with opening Juicebox galleries locally on your new MacBook Pro (M2 Max, 2023) running macOS 14.1.2 (Sonoma) and Safari 17.1.2. The problem is not present on your old MacBook Pro (15", 2016) running macOS 12.7.1 (Monterey) and Safari 17.1.

The error message you're receiving, "JuiceBox Error: Config File Not Found," suggests that there might be a problem with the configuration file of the Juicebox gallery.

While the solution you were provided seems to be outdated, here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:

  1. Check the file permissions: Make sure that the local folder containing the Juicebox galleries has the appropriate read and write permissions for your user account. You can do this by right-clicking the folder, selecting "Get Info," and checking the "Sharing & Permissions" section at the bottom of the window.
  2. Clear Safari cache and cookies: Sometimes, corrupted cache and cookies can cause issues with loading local files. You can clear them by going to Safari > Preferences > Privacy > Manage Website Data and clicking "Remove All."
  3. Try using a different browser: If the issue persists in Safari, try opening the Juicebox galleries in a different browser like Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. If the galleries open correctly in other browsers, it might be a Safari-specific issue.
  4. Check for updates: Make sure you have the latest version of the Juicebox plugin installed. If not, update the plugin and recreate the galleries to see if the issue is resolved.
  5. Contact Juicebox support: If none of the above steps work, you may want to reach out to Juicebox support for further assistance. They might have more specific information about this issue and can provide a solution tailored to your situation.
