Software Instrument plays but doesn't appear in Logic's Library?

Hi all...

I have a logic project originally created in GB around 2015 (then imported and save as a logic project)

In GB, there was a sw inst called 'Syn Bass' - and it plays just fine in this logic project...so it must be someplace in the complete legacy/garageband sounds which I've installed.

BUT - pressing 'y' highlights no sw inst of that name.

Which is no big deal, but that means I can't call it up on any new projects.

(Thinking maybe the name just changed, I tried every listed GB and logic bass/synth bass and none matches the sound of 'Syn Bass')

Has anyone else had a legacy instrument 'disappear' (from the sound library listings but can still be played from an old project) like this?

Thanks for any help🙂

EDIT: I'm attaching a screen of the instrument - it appears to be an ES2 patch/preset if that helps?

It might had been a custom patch for GB ES2.

What you did is fine, but it saves the instrument and all the plug-ins, eq setting , bus etc.

What is easier is to just to create a preset in ES2 called Syn Bass.

Open the ES2 instrument for the Syn Bass track and without making and changes click on the menu and select Save As. This will then allow you to save this preset. Call it Syn Bass.

Now whenever you are using the ES2 instrument, you can audition all the preset sounds and you will also see your newly created preset on the menu.

That's not all. You can also recall your Syn Bass sound as an instrument in the Library search bar. Start typing syn and it should show up. Cool huh.

okay I found a solution (in a way)

in the track's channel strip:

- right click 'Setting'

- 'save channel strip setting as' and name it (it'll be a user preset)

now in any new project:

- right clk on channel strip of track you want to load the sound on

- menu shows channel strip presets - select whatever it was named and it loads.

(could also just copy/paste the channel strip between projects but in my case I knew I'd want this available so I created a user preset)

So, evidently, 'Syn Bass' was a 'manual' setting for the ES2 included in Garageband?

Neither the ES2 menu of sounds or Logic library uses the name 'Syn Bass' today?

That solves my particular problem but if anyone can point out what I might still be missing about Logic or ES2 presets/patches, I'd appreciate it!🙂

Awesome! Thank you for clarifying how to save the ES2 preset!

(I simply copy/pasted the whole strip because I rely on stock sounds and tend to rely on the presets for compressor setting etc as well as the sw instrument patch/configuration.)

So, this solves the problem...

And I'll probably never know for sure where that sound came from (GB '11 I think?) or went.

Maybe it's just something peculiar to my system because it seems unlikely a legacy sound would just disappear. All I know is that it must have been there at some point in the past.

But thank you again for such a clear explanation! 🙂
