Iphone 8 Plus "unable to install apps"

Hi,

I transferred from Android to Iphone and the phone was upgraded to ios16 before the factory reset. After that I'm not able to install default ios apps such as clock, contacts, files, facetime etc. It just says waiting and when I click it shows "unable to install, try again error". When go to app and try to delete it shows the loading sign. I can install new apps, but the default ones are not installing/deleting.

What I have did:

  • Reset All settings/Network Settings
  • Checked Content & Privacy Restrictions
  • Checked Storage
  • Restarted Device
  • Sign out Apple ID and sign back in

Please help, I have been trying to fix this issue for two days. I would appreciate help as I'm new to Apple ecosystem

What sberman didn't mention was this sentence from Release Notes of 16.7.4

This update fixes an issue where built-in Apple apps that may have been deleted may not reinstall.

This indicates an old iPhone, as recent iPhones use iOS 17.

So please tell us the exact nature of the history of this iPhone:

  • What model? (Settings > General > About > Model Name)?
  • What is the specific iOS version?
  • What was the upgrade method?
  • What steps occurred in the factory reset?

wonderful answers: 1.) ios16 is old 2.) why would you try to install defsult apps when they come as default on the phone? helpful indeed.

i appreciate my fellow community members beating me to the punch, posting/bringing this issue to light. as i am havig the exact same issue, allow me to clarify: the reason the OP mentions IOS 16 is b/c before setting up and transferring data to a new device from an existing one, there are multiple alerts/prompts/warnings etc. informing the user to be sure that both devices are running ios16 or higher. in other words, they are offering the detail that they were updated to iOS 16 so that you can eliminate the possibility of the error being related to an old iOS.

as far as the "default apps:” these are mentioned b/c the issue is isolated to these apps. the “apple” apps, those that come as default on any new apple device. when using QUICKSTART to set up a new device from an existing one, this suite of apps will not be installed once the process is completed. they will look as if they are pending download (dark) and if a user clicks on any one of them, in the hopes of reinitiaing the download, an error message is displayed, simply stating “unable to install maps” please try again later. thats it, no further detail. this impacts: maps, translate, calculator, clock, mail, notes, reminders, voice memos, calendar, freeform, shortcuts, home, tips, facetime, find my, health...

it appears to have something to do with the Apple ID and/or cloud, but like the OP, i have tried a number of things to resolve, to no avail.

perhaps someone that is willing to actually read the posts and is bit less dismissive would like to chime in? we would appreciate it! thank you.

I am having the exact same issue. Upgraded my moms phone from iphone 7 to iphone 8 and installed the newest iOS (16.7.3) that it would take. I cannot seem to restore MAIL, CONTACTS and other core apps. Says Waiting or "Unable to install..." when I touch the app to start the download. Super strange. Any help would be appreciated. Went through the same steps at the user above too.

yes but they will not restore...I see them on the home screen but cannot use them. I've tries to do a clean activation, migration OTA, migration from iCloud backup hard reset, sign in and sign out, reset network settings etc. Nothing works. It is only CORE apps, MAIL, Calendar, News, Files, Calculator, Compass, Maps, Weather, Voice Memos, Find My, Wallet, Reminders, Clock, Shortcuts, Measure, Translate, Fitness, Freeform, FaceTime... Any suggestions would be appreciated... Apple Support, I'm looking for you guys...

Today i just bought a apple watch SE 2nd gen. As a gift to myself as i was trying to install back the “watch” app i see this kind of error “unable to install app try again later” I tried many ways of troubleshooting it but still not working.

Troubleshoot done:

Restart

Connect to a different WIFI

Use mobile Data

Reset Phone. (Instead of watch app not installing now i have every default app cant be installed)

Tried different account
