Messages disappear from iPad when drafting. Seems to occur after changing pages (apps)

While writing messages on the iPad, I sometimes switch to another screen for as long as an hour, or as short as a few minutes. When I switch back to messages my draft has disappeared. In the last four days this happened 4 times while trying to write a very lengthy text. Just a few minutes ago it happened while I was writing a 3 or 4 paragraph text. Does anyone have any idea on how I can prevent this?

It is very annoying. I set up the sync with the cloud, but since it is an overnight sync, no files are available.

I’m at a loss to where to go next. Does anyone have an idea?

You can’t prevent it; if the iPad needs additional RAM it will clear data that has not been saved from apps, and Messages does not save drafts. If you plan to write a long text write it in the Notes app or some other text editor so you can copy and paste it when ready to send.
