Using a 2016 IMac display with a new Mini Mac?

I have a 2016 IMAC 21.5 /3.1 QC /8GB/ 1TB. Monterey version 12.7.1. Runs slow at times. Needs to put an anti virus/ lifelock of some kind on it. I use the Apple TV+ on it also. I don’t use it for anything else except for web browsing or shopping on Amazon or other online stores. Do I need to upgrade? I was looking at a Mini Mac. Would the display, Bluetooth mouse, and the keyboard be compatible with a new mini Mac?

Your Bluetooth mouse & keyboard should be compatible with a new Mac mini, but you will not be able to use your iMac's display as a monitor for it.

... and that display does not have to be an Apple one; you could use just about any make & model with the mini.

FWIW, I have been using Mac minis since the 2008 models. My current one is a 2023 M2 Pro. My current monitor is a Dell 27" 4K display.

If you still need assistance with your 2016 iMac, we can certainly try to help you with that ... and, if that's the case, the first thing we would like for you to provide us is with an EtreCheck report. EtreCheck is a troubleshooting app, developed by a valued forum member. It greatly aides in diagnosing difficult Mac issues. You would run it report, and optionally, post it here if you need assistance with interpreting its results.
