External display show 1080p always

Dear all,

I would like to change screen resolution for external display to other resolution (for example to 1280x720), but it always resize it to 1080p. I am using OSX Somona 14.2 with HDMI output also with USB-C to HDMI cable. Did anyone have similar problems? Thanks.

Different resolution options with external monitor between MBP 16 and MBP 14 I have an M3 Max MBP 16 and an M4 Max MBP 14 connected to the same external display through the same TB4 dock/cable. For some reason, I get different resolution options on the external display depending on which Mac i'm connected to. Why is this and is there anything I can do to standardize these? Specifically, the MBP 16 gives me 5 display options on the typical "larger text, default, more space" UI. The resolution I typically like here is 3840 x 1620. The MBP 14 only gives 4 options and the closest option is 3360 x 1418. And no, selecting the toggle to show all resolution options does not help as there are no options in between 3360 x 1418 and 5120 x 2160. I had a similar issue with a MacBook Air a while ago, but I assumed it was due to the MBA lacking the graphics power to push the higher resolutions. But there seems to be no reason whatsoever that the MBP 14 wouldnt be able to match the resolution output to an external display of an older MBP 16. This is extremely annoying and makes using multiple Macs difficult to do from a continuity standpoint. I do not want to download 3rd party resolution software. I've tried that before and if the resolution isn't available natively it looks like trash. I also shouldn't need to do so.

Ultrawide 49" display issue with M2 Mac Mini I am trying to achieve the native display of 5120x1440 on my AGON PD40 49" OLED Ultrawide on my 2023 M2 Mac Mini 8GB but the max resolution via HDMI is 3840x1080. Is this merely due to the type of cable being used or is it inherently not possible? I am using the supplied HDMI. Can it only be achieved using USBC to DP (high speed)? Any help appreciated so I can enjoy the screen to its fullest.

Impossible to change resolution to highest on MacBook with monitor Hello, I have a MacBook Pro mid-2012 13", under macOS Catalina 10.15.7. I bought a MiniDisplayPort to HDMI adapter (it works in 4K 60hz, as my HDMI cable does, and it's the version 1.2 of DP) in order to connect my Mac to my monitor (my monitor is a LG UltraWide 29BN650-B 29" with a resolution of 2560x1080 pixels). The problem is that I can't define the resolution of the display on 2560x1080 pixels when I go to my Mac's settings. I even tried to change the resolution in the monitors settings by pressing the option key (alt) : the maximum resolution proposed is 1600x900. So i let the settings on "optimised for LG HDR WFHD" and not on "scaled", but it does not fill the whole monitor display unless I change the picture format of the monitor for "full Wide" instead of "original", but it expands the icons so that's not what I want. I thought the problem was coming from my MacBook which may not support the resolution, but after doing some searches it can support up to 2560x1600 pixels of resolution. If anyone knows how to solve this problem and define the resolution to 2560x1080, it would help me a lot, thanks :) PS : I also tried to change the settings of the DP version on my monitor to 1.2 instead of 1.4 but it didn't change anything, and I think the problem may come from the fact that the cable is a Mini DisplayPort instead of Thunderbolt but idk if it changes something.

Hi, not sure what does it mean "default resolution". When I set the required resolution, I would like to have the same as I set, not default. I tried also with USB-C to HDMI cable and also change it to 1080p. For example Epson Projector can show only 1920x1200 resolution, but it is not possible to set it.

Changing resolution on old MacBook Pro 14 (2021) with Ventura works correctly. I have what I set.

Hi,

It's not the problem, 1080p is the default resolution for HDMI connection to external monitor.
