Live Text not working as it should on MBP

Hi there,

I have a problem with Live Text in that it does not appear to work on my MBP since I upgraded to Sonoma (at least, I think it was since the upgrade).

Before the upgrade I am pretty certain that I was able to take a snapshot of a screen display and then, with Preview, copy the text. When I moved the cursor over the text, I could select the text and copy/paste.

Now, I can’t do this. The cursor is a cross-hair cursor (maybe it’s called ‘precision-select cursor), and when I choose Tools>Text Selection, the cursor stays as a cross-hair one when it should change to the ‘text-selection’ cursor; instead, it changes to an arrow.

I’ve checked this on another MBP and it’s exactly the same. I can’t select the text.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, after a couple of hours searching, I found the cause.

In language and region settings, there is an option to switch on/off live text and then my case it was switched off.

Switching it on solved my issue.

I am seeing no issue in Sonoma...

Shut down and restart more than once since your upgrade(?)

verify your software is up to date…

The current stable release of Sonoma including bug fixes, security updates is macOS 14.2

Hi there,

I've tried a couple of shutdown/restarts and still the same.

When I select Tools>Text Selection, I still don't get the text selection cursor. Even on another MBP, the issue is occurring. They both have an up to date Sonoma OS as well.

I'll file a report and hopefully get a solution.
