(My Mac Pro M3 is connected to SAMSUNG ODYSSEY G95 57 -inch wide -screen display, which cannot support the resolution of 7680x2160)

Dear Apple Customer Service Team and Fellow MacBook Pro Users,

I am encountering a resolution issue when connecting my MacBook Pro M3 to a Samsung Odyssey G95 57-inch widescreen monitor and am seeking your assistance.

My external monitor, the Samsung Odyssey G95, has a standard resolution of 7680x2160. However, when I connect it to my MacBook Pro M3 via the HDMI port, the computer only recognizes a resolution of 5120×1440. This results in blurred text and shadowing, leading to poor clarity. I understand that my MacBook Pro may not support the 7680x2160 resolution.

To address this issue, I have tried the following:

  1. I tested several HDMI cables. Only the HDMI cable that came with the monitor was able to achieve a 5120x1440 resolution, while others supported even lower resolutions, unable to reach 7680x2160.
  2. I installed drivers and automatic recognition software provided by Samsung, but the problem persists.
  3. I attempted to adjust the settings using third-party software like BetterDisplay Pro, but without success.
  4. When I connected the monitor to an iPad Pro (11-inch, 3rd generation), the display was noticeably clearer than when connected to the MacBook Pro, though I am unsure of the resolution used by the iPad.

Given these circumstances, I would like to inquire:

  • Does the MacBook Pro M3 support a resolution of 7680x2160?
  • Are there any recommended settings or configuration methods to improve the display quality on my external monitor?
  • Are there any known compatibility issues or existing solutions?

Thank you for your assistance.

In addition, I also want to know, how can my MacBook Pro pick up two displays at the same time? Thanks

That depends on EXACTLY which MacBook Pro model: The same rules we learned for the M1 and M2 still apply to the M3 models. Display interfaces are generated deep inside the system on a chip. How many there are depends on the exact type of Processor:

M3 (plain) like the 13-in and 15-in supports up to ONE fully hardware-accelerated external display.

M3 PRO processor supports up to Two fully hardware-accelerated external displays.

M3 MAX processor supports up to Four fully hardware-accelerated external displays.

In every case, turning off the internal display does Not allow you to connect another external display.

However: If you are only doing program listings, spreadsheets, stock quotes and other slow to change data, there are some other solutions, but they require you to make some strong compromises.

Thank you for your reply. I bought two high-definition HDMI cables that support 4K (120HZ) or 8K (60HZ). Samsung also provided a high-definition HDMI cable with the monitor. However, I did not look for an 'Apple-certified HDMI cable or +48G.' No worries though. Since Apple computers are not very friendly with the stock trading software I use, I have switched to an HP Z1 G9 workstation. After using a DisplayPort cable to connect the computer to the monitor, I can easily use the 5120x1440 resolution. In any case, thank you.
