Selling my music…

How can Apple Music sell my songs and I get none of the profits? Search Vontanner, that’s me and it is copyrighted!

If you have a contract with a record label, check over that contract and see what it says. Maybe you signed away your rights, and they're getting the money.


That used to be a common game with LPs/CDs. The record company would front an "advance", out of which the band had to pay for making promotional material that the record company wanted. Then the label would keep all royalties earned from the song until the advance was paid in full. Even after the advance was repaid, the record company would keep the copyrights on the recordings.


If neither you, nor anyone you contracted with, posted this music – and you believe that it is your music – then you may want to contact Apple. If someone else, claiming to be the person who held the copyright on the music, submitted the music to Apple, Apple may have accepted it into their catalog unknowingly.
