Using AirPods Max with iRig HD to listen to electric guitar

How to connect AirPods Max to audio device with longer cable.

Apple sells a Lightning to 3.5 Audio to connect AirPods Max to an audio port, however, this cable is only 1.2m long.

The 1.2m cable is too short to use with my electric guitar.

Can I use a headphone extension cable?

I haven't purchased the headphones yet.

I can't hear anything, I have the correct 3.5mm audio jack to lightning cable from apple (the $35 one) plugged into my AirPod Maxes. I can see a level on the iRig as I play the guitar, but nothing comes through, headphones turned on headphones, level turned up on iRig. I'll keep working on it and will watch this space for any help!
