Sharing iCloud on 2 Macs

I currently am using 2 MacBook Pros for different uses. How do I backup with iCloud separately? I do not want both MacBooks to have same desktops.

Thank you!

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 14.2

When you mention backups do you mean syncing your two Macs' iCloud drives with iCloud? Backups to iCloud is more often understood to be backing up an iOS device to iCloud.

If you want your two Macs to use iCloud services, but not the desktop and documents part of iCloud Drive syncing, you can turn this off in one or both of the Macs.

This can be done by going to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > iCloud Drive

The panel which then appears gives you the option to turn on or off iCloud Drive syncing (being your iCloud Drive folder) and an additional choice of turning on the Desktop and Documents folders. Make your choice and click Done.
