How do I force Apple Mail to connect to Xfinity via IMAP instead of POP?

Using Sonoma 14.1.2 and Apple Mail 16. I had to delete and recreate the connection to my Xfinity email account in Apple Mail to resolve a password issue. When I recreated it, Mail automatically created a POP account instead of IMAP and there appears to be no way to change it. Xfinity's online instructions are outdated and useless. How do I switch my account from POP to IMAP?

Mac Studio, macOS 14.1

Thanks for the assist. While I've already viewed and tried Xfinity's help page to no avail, I was able to resolve my issue, albeit by taking some extreme measure. The problem was that I changed my Xfinity password and then couldn't figure out how to update Mail, so I ended up deleting the account and recreating it. The new account automatically configured as POP, and refused to change even after manually inputting the IMAP settings -it just auto-switched back to the POP settings. In trying to figure out how to fix this, though, I discovered how to update my password (which was a real "DUH!" moment, since I've done this before). I couldn't figure out how to restore the account via Time Machine (I couldn't find the files that online help said to restore), so I used Migration Assistant to restore the basic system to the last save point prior to the deletion. It took several hours, but it worked. The original IMAP account was restored. It even auto-populated my new password. It may not have been the most elegant solution, but it got the job done. I still don't know why the Xfinity account auto-configured as POP though. I haven't used POP in years.

If your allowed Apple Mail to auto detect the setting for Xfinity there could be some work to be done

The work would involve Manually changing some of the Setting
