Final Cut Pro codec support for Nikon NEV file format?

Why does Final Cut Pro not support Nikon's file format .NEV. I have both the Nikon Z8 and Z9 cameras they can shoot both 10 and 12 Bit color video files. But, it seems that my iMac Pro does not support they native file format .NEV both not for Final Cut Pro and Nikon native app of NX Studio. Is there future development of a codec for Mac to support this file format.

Mac Pro, OS X 10.11

You can download the free version of DaVinci Resolve from the Blackmagic Design website and use that to transcode the NEV files to ProRes HQ or 4444. The free version is very good but it has a limitation in the frame size of video you can export - you are restricted to HD or UHD (3840 x 2160) so you can't export 8K video if indeed you wanted to do that. I think an iMac Pro might have difficulty with 8K NRAW video in any case.

An alternative is to record 4K ProRes Raw in-camera as FCP can read that and it would probably run better on your Mac. However, there is presently a serious bug in FCP 10.7 and ProRes Raw recorded on Z8 and Z9 cameras on some Intel Macs so test before you use it on anything important for now (a number of threads on here discuss this) .

ive been on fcp since 1999 & love it but yes i agree, .NEV with Nikon glass & 12bit captures is heaven 🎥🎞️🎬🎭

im using DaVinci Resolve Studio for iPadOS & macOS which is a more robust application for moviemaking, audio, cloning out sections of clips...but, & it is a big but, DaVinci Resolve is the old paradigm of editing, which is really really slow with a lot of unnecessary keyboard clicks & needless ‘Pages’ to do the same editing tasks that FCP does on one timeline & UI.

Final Cut Pro is a different paradigm like a Ferrari/Formula One and it will out edit any editing system on planet Earth. It's not even close.

fyi, DaVinci Resolve does not have a magnetic timeline

so for now, DaVinci Resolve is it for .NEV
