Apple Vision Pro is now available in the U.S.

"Archived" SD cards make it impossible to import leaving files in place.

I archive my SD cards by copying them to an external SSD but of course when I came to view their contents in FCP I cannot import them by leaving them in place.

I realise this is because FCP thinks it is dealing with a camera but what is the best way to store them without losing any metadata?

Each SSD card is stored with a name like "CAM_SD 16" and inside the folder are 3 folders named DCIM, MISC and PRIVATE.

What is the simplest way to store them without any loss of information?

I placed a .MTS file on my desktop, imported it into FCP via the Import Window and it appears to show the creation date (when it was shot). I can also specify to Leave Files In Place.

When FCP X first appeared we were told to always save the complete folder structure of the SD card.

Is that still true or can we now simply save the .MTS files without losing any data?

Thanks Ben. The only data I really need is the creation date which appears to be OK.

I am wondering whether the initial instructions to copy the whole SD card folder was because FCP X could not open .MTS files on their own back in 2011?

I seem to remember people complaining that they had simply copied the .MTS files and FCP X did not recognise them.
