You don't get to pick and choose the iOS option you want. You get ONLY the most current version compatible with your phone. To be more clear, you cannot download iOS 16 to your phone at all. If you want to update your iPhone you will ONLY have the option to update it to iOS 17.2.1

Updates will always be the most recent version of iOS.

If you update the SE 2nd Gen, iOS 17.2.1 will be installed.

Other users are here virtually 24 hours a day and happy to answer questions. It's sad you are willing to forgo security updates because you believe you are too old to learn new features. And to your above comment about iPhone 8. It is NOT capable of updating to iOS 17. If it was, it too wouldn't have an option to choose any other iOS version than the latest version available for that model.

Ps: iOS 17 did NOT change everything you know about using iPhone. Yes, like iOS 16 made changes over iOS 15 and iOS 15 made changes over iOS 14, iOS 17 didn't change so much you wouldn't recognize how to use your iPhone.

What you fail to understand is it's NOT just features. Its security updates and bug fixes, which protect you. We get it. Your mind is made up. So I'm not sure you need to continue justifying your position on this. Its your phone and you do with it as you wish.

A shame that you are already 3-4 months behind on security updates, but its your call.

No, they are not. iPhone 8 cannot update to iOS 17, so it's stuck with iOS 16 updates.

I'm 79, and somehow manage. But, I'm willing to learn.

Well, you have to be willing to accept truthful answers, not the answers that you have already made up your mind that you want to hear.
