It's pretty easy to tell if you enabled it: sign into your Apple ID on your new phone. Either the messages will appear, or they won't.

If they don't and you have a recent backup of your phone, you can try restoring your new phone from that backup:

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support

If you had iCloud syncing for Messages enabled, then signing into your iCoud account on the new phone should cause the messages to reappear.
