Music ripped from CDs isn't going into library.

I recently purchased a bunch of CDs and ripped them on my Mac so I can listen to the music on my iPhone. However, when I tried to transfer music to my phone, I got the message "Some items, including [song name] were not copied to the iPhone "[my iPhone]" because they could not be played on this iPhone."

I checked the file locations with the Get Info function on the relevant songs, and instead of the usual location in my music library, all it said was "Macintosh HD". Like so:

The tracks won't play on my Mac either, and when deleted, nothing appears in the trash. There does seem to be one throughline in the tracks being sent to Limbo: They all have accents over some of the letters (that said, several CDs with accnted letters have made the trip to my music library). Any clues?

See this thread Music app is showing the location of seve… - Apple Community where a user called yahzeeskellington has adapted a script I wrote for fixing broken links to try to deal with these oddly broken files. So far I've not run into the same issue, perhaps not least because I'm an Apple Music subscriber and don't actually sync anything manually right now.

There's an expanding grey box with the edited version of the script in the linked post that you can copy and paste into an empty window in the Script Editor. I haven't personally tested it as I don't think I can recreate the issue, but reading their post they have made a minor edit to the script that means it should be able to repair the problem you're seeing. You don't actually need to change anything.

That much I understood, it was the part where the poster says "then save the file to ~/Library/Music/Scripts to call it from the Music menu bar after selecting the files you want to fix. " that was giving me pause, since I'm not sure exactly what save location I should be using. Anyway, it's a minor point now since it does seem clear that the cause of my problem is all in the umlauts.

Thanks tt2; unfortunately the solution appears to be a bit beyond my extremely limited technical abilities right now (time to bone up on script editing - my last experience with this kind of thing was back in high school, 30 years ago). On the plus side, I've found that if I change the name of the CD prior to ripping it the files go to the correct location, but if I change it back to the right one at least some of them pull a disappearing act. It's a little disconcerting ....
