Stuck setting up new iPad for child.

I found a solution that seems to work. Doing a hard reset did not fix it, and I kept getting stuck at the "update restrictions screen." However, if you hold the power button (not to do a reset), a little mini-menu pops up. The menu has options such as "Start over," which will do an erase and reset. I did that, and this time it let me get through the process.

This is what finally worked for me, after I tried the setup like 10 times:

1. Setup the iPad for myself (guardian of the apple family account)
2. Update the software of the iPad (not sure if this was really necessary, but for completeness, it's what I did)
3. Sign out of my icloud account on the ipad (Settings, tap on my name, scroll down, log out)
4. Sign in again, and when asked say that you setup the iPad for you child. You are then asked for your parents Apple-ID and subsequently the child you want the iPad to setup

Hope this works for you, too.

This just happened to me as well. I originally set up the iPad manually and got stuck on this screen. Then I decided to restart the iPad and set it up using my iPhone and I did not get stuck on the passcode screen.

Try updating to the latest software version. If that doesn’t work, try to force restart your iPad

• On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
• On other iPad models: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.

I had to go back to factory settings and when it gets to the part where you set up the restrictions for age etc. just skip for now. You can set them up later but this was the only thing that worked for me, took 3 times of restarting on my 10 y/o new iphone 15 :(

figured it out. Check and clear the notifications on the parents phone.

I told them to wait until the device was set up for normal use and then set up Screen Time in Settings.

I was able to get through the screen by clicking the main button and selecting "start over" and then going through all of the steps without modifying any of the restriction settings or screen time recommendations.

Set up the device without parental controls and then add them after the device has been set up.

In my case, a hard reset did the trick.

After i've started all over again, it just went through at the parent passcode step where it was stuck before.

So definitely something to fix on Apple's side.

Just to let you know that I fixed this by:

1) Connecting the iPhone to iTunes on a Windows PC after a hard restart of the iPhone

2) Performing an iOS software update to the latest version

3) Starting the process again

i entered the Apple ID and went back to enter the telephone number with the Apple ID password.

I'm clueless as to why, but the Apple servers are probably very active as it is Christmas Day and thousands are trying to set up their new devices.

I would suggest waiting until tomorrow to see if the issue persists.
