iPhone 14 genuine magsafe puck charger in car turns on and off repetitively

iPhone 14 always updated firmware, genuine apple from apple store puck charger usb-c in car keeps connecting to charge and disconnecting every few seconds. USB-C power plug was generic from Amazon, replaced with Anker rated for iPhone 14. I have two puck chargers one in the house, both do this in the car and not in the house on AC adapter. I have tried changing charge options to all choices, I have tried REBOOTING the phone several times, this no longer works, I have swapped the USB-C charger back the cheap one, works for a day then returns to on/off, same with Anker USB-C power adapter.

Frustrating to say the least, I bought a genuine apple puck charger so I would not have trouble...

I solved it and it was not power related, I wanted to post the solution in case this happens to someone else. The second Anker charger I purchased was rated at twice the draw of my apple magsafe puck charger.

While driving yesterday I did some more testing.

The magsafe charger seems to activate when it magnetically “attaches”

to the phone.

I previously had an older phone with a metal plate inside

the case to hold it to a magnetic mount on the dash.

The back of the magsafe charger is not magnetic rather alumimum?

When I installed my magsafe puck in the car I placed a small metal plate that

came with the magnetic mount on the back of the magsafe puck to reuse the phone

mount in the car (magnetic).

When I remove the magsafe puck from the magnetic dash mount

and attach the phone it charges properly and does not turn on and off.

Whenever I reattach the magsafe puck to the magnetic dash mount

and attach the phone to the magsafe charger, it begins the on/off cycle.

I believe that the magnetic “sense” of the magsafe puck turning

on when the phone is there, is being interrupted or counter acted magnetically

by the generic magnetic dash mount.

Now unattached to the magnetic dash mount the Anker power port in combination with the phone magsafe charger is working properly.

There's a chance your iPhone 14 is pulling too much power. I had a similar issue with a power strip in my house. The USB ports would stop working if I plugged my iPad mini in. I figured out that the Mini was trying to pull more power than the USB ports could provide.

The tech specs for the iPhone 14 are here: iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus - Technical Specifications - Apple

Might be worthwhile to see if you can determine how much power the car can provide over USB.
