I use the title to organize all my pictures in Photos.
In an album that you created (not the preset albums like Library or Recents which have their own predetermined order) you can click on the menu View and Sort to choose the sort order, like this:
This works in Smart Albums, as well.
Thank you for your reply! I should have been more specific. I actualy was looking for a way to organize my library by title since it has over 15,000 photos. Then, I thought of duplicating the library as an album and sorting the new album by title. It was easy to do, but just FYI: You can sort the duplicate album just as you can any other album, but it does not sort accurately. I wanted to know if it could be done, and with your help I found my answer. No, it can't.
That's great! I never really look in Library-- All the preset album do their own thing, not mine. Albums sort by capture date (though sometimes a picture has the wrong date attached) or by Title. They do not have the option to sort by filename, which may be what you are meaning. It's possible to use a 3rd party app to help with that-- I use Photos Workbench with gives lots of options for titles, including using the file name as the title.
You upgraded your mac already to macOS 10.15 Catalina or later. The system version before - macOS 10.14 Mojave has been the only system version where in Photos sorting by Title would sort the images by the filename, if a photo did not have a title. Photos 4 would use the filename as a default title, when sorting by title. The current versions of Photos are no longer doing this.
Yes. This screenshot describes the sort options for the various views within a Photos library:
Remember that folders can't contain photos only albums, smart albums or projects.
