I have no idea how this happened, except I was trying to figure out how to have two screens open at once and suddenly all menus are gone. I can't get back to "finder" or to desktop. HELP
I'm thinking you tried to place two windows side by side viewing which I believe triggers a special full screen mode. See if the information in this Apple article helps:
