Apple Vision Pro is now available in the U.S.

Exporting video Crashing at different points.

Files in 6k. Shot on lumix S5 3:2 format. 30P

Edited using proxy.

Project length 72 min.

Only original video and voice over. Just stabilisation added at some places.

Macbook air M1 chip with 8 GB RAM.

I close all programs before i start exporting.

Have Mac OS Sonoma 14.2.1

Storage: I am using samsung SSD 1 TB external drive ( shown as T7 in the attached image )that has project files. storage position shown in the attached image.

Issue:

Doesn't matter what codec i use or what resolution output is chosen (5K, 4K, or HD), export keeps crashing at different points. maximum it has reached 36 minutes and then crashed. sometimes it crashed after 5 minutes of rendering.

Have restarted several times.

It is driving me crazy. Crash report is too big too attached. i dint see any option to upload a .txt file here.

Hi Tom,

I appreciate you are trying to help me, which is a pretty thankless job. Please bear with my thoughts as my frustration at the moment knows no bound. I have removed both of those applications as carefully as I could but that is too much of price to pay for using FCP. I meet their minimum specs so I expect slowness in performance, every very slow performance, but crash is not acceptable. This is how I see things. Else they have mis-sold me a product, unified architecture M1 changing the whole. world etc etc...I am NOT doing real time editing and using proxy instead. exporting of any resolution files is an offline process and if resources are crashing it must mean that either FCP is poorly designed, M1 is over hyped or both.

anyways, as I said, I appreciate you supporting me here.

latest ER report attached.

OK> i thought that was for VPN only. i can remove it but here is the thing.

Another useful info i didnt mention you all, as it didnt occur to me, using the same source, exactly same everything I was able to export easily in July when i used the TRIAL version of FCP. see screenshot. just TWO things have changed since then.

1.i have the paid version of FCP now.

2. I have added voice over and stabilisation in the timeline.

so not sure why should i change y whole world upside down ( by deleting everything ) to get the same thing done.

Solved: Finally I got a way to move forward. so it is very much possible to use a Macbook air M1 with 8 GB Ram to edit a 6K file and output in 6K.

what did I do:

1. Used proxy files for a very smooth editing.

just voice over added, clips chopped, transitions added in nearly 10% clips but stabilisation - smoothcam type, added to almost 90% clips.

total duration of the edited project was 1 hour 12 minutes.

2. Rendered All. As i have realised that rendering sucks in FCP , atleast on my Macbook, as it leaves many footages un-rendered that I had to render them manually, one by one.

3. Then I used prores422 codec to export file on my very old external ( non powered ) 2TB Toshiba drive as an output location. so harware in use were my Macbook air M1 with 8GB Ram and my Toshiba old non powered NON-SSD hard disk.

it took nearly 12 hours to export. file size was 680GB.

4. Then i loaded this prores .MOV file into a new project where all i did was exported using H264 codec into a .mov file. it took another 10 hours to finish that.

5.I kept my safari browser and activity monitor opened all along.

so i have my output with me. its a 5184X3456 3:2 aspect ratio clip edited ready.

thanks all for your help. deeply appreciated.

Unless these unrendered sections are also unrendered in the exported file, there's no need to pre-render. Rendering the timeline is useful if the Mac is not capable of playing a complicated timeline in real-time.
