How do you access a partially copied folder?

Hi, so how do you access a partially copied folder?

When you normally copied if you suddenly stopped during the progress you could at least access whatever files successfully copied, now you cant, is there any way to see whats inside my partially copied folders?

I've been trying to copy an old archive folder containing 138,761 items from about 1996-2011. The copying stopped with an .sit file it didn't like ("the filename is either too long or .. something else"), and because there was no option to skip, well, I'm stuck with an incomplete copy with inaccessible files.

For large copy transfers I will either use the command line (not for everyone) or the paid third party app Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC). CCC allows you to select or deselect items to copy, plus it will alert if there are any issues and note it in the log so if you choose the "skip all" option when an error is encountered, then you can look in the log to see what items did not copy. I never use the Finder these days since so many little things will have the Finder copy get stuck. It won't alert if elevated root privileges are needed for a sub folder.

I don't know why Apple changed the behavior of macOS, but it is annoying.

Edit: SuperDuper is another third party app that has a good reputation.

On advice here, I used an alias to locate the problem file (not made so easy either when OS doesn't copy sequentially any more), and unarchived to view, then deleted it.

Attempting to restart the copy I was given an option to merge, but the copy immediately failed "The operation can't be completed because an unexpected error occured (error code 0)" Guess that means I can't modify?

Meaning the copying workflow is completely useless in the case of a file that won't copy. 2024? Lame.

Without a resumable copy workflow that works, I'm left to do the copying from scratch in many many small chunks. Every time I hit a problem I have to copy the new problem sub-folder again from scratch in smaller chunks, and use the alias to isolate the problem. It's going to be a long night! Unbelievably painful. Thanks Apple.

The only redeemable feature is using the alias to access and extract folders I want so I don't need to copy them twice.

hmm, every Mac osx version up until Samona had it, you must be very young or did not notice?

So according to the replies here, no one wants to even discuss if or why Apple does not offer the normal copy procedure any more? like its copy all or nothing even if a power outage took place n a large 200s of GB folder or user cancels manually to access something because its taking days.?

you sure there is no way to open a folder that was interrupted while copying?

there is zero to do with anything like corruption

Its not complicate but of course apple seems to make nothing complicated, simply task like copying a file to another drive or a folder used to behave like this in OS9, why in the world would apple circle more things in the latest os SONOMA? what do you gain by making newer systems behave like windows 5 or os9?

You copy a folder, its not a package or applications, its a folder, whatever does not make it doe snot get copied, what ver does should at least be available..just like when Apple advanced the system into os10., but I guess stirring trouble is more profiting so changing back to the Stone Age and talking condescending to customers means they are observed by a computer more then using it like its supposed to work
