MacOS as Home Hub

I am finding it more and more difficult to keep all my devices up-to-date from a remote location. Many companies schedule updates when I'm away which can mean that some device go offline, if they remain on an old version.

My question is (if anyone knows) is why doesn't Apple allow a Mac to be a home hub? This way, updates can be managed a lot easier than using a HomePod or an Apple TV, and I can access my Mac remotely.

it's probably because most macs they sell are laptops, and that means like with iphones they tend to bring them when they leave, and if one remove the hub from the wifi network everything stops working, which would explains why they demoted ipads so they no longer work as hubs, so now people need an appletv or homepod to have a hub.

of cause this is just speculations from my behalf

you can try to see if they have an official stance by contacting their support channels

as stated most macs they sell are laptops, while people would rarely bring their mac mini or imac with them then they all use the same operating system, so maybe they fear they would get plenty of support calls, from people who did remove the hub from their home and does not understand why homekit falls flat, again as stated this is speculations on my behalf.
