AirPods gen 3 won’t connect

I just received new AirPods gen 3 for Christmas. They won’t come up as an option to connect via Bluetooth. I have updated to the newest software on my iPhone 11, turned off Bluetooth on any devices around me. They are fully charged. And they just don’t seem to get picked up to even select as an option to connect. Are they defective? The store they were purchased from states they won’t accepts returns on them. My son’s first gen AirPods connect perfectly, but not these. HELP!

Dont you see the connection animation pop up when opening the case? Try and reset the AirPods to see if the issues are persisting after that

Return AirPods to factory settings

If your AirPods aren’t working correctly after you restart them, you can return them to their factory settings.

Do one of the following:

  • AirPods (all generations) or AirPods Pro (all generations): Put the AirPods in their case, close the lid, then wait 30 seconds. Open the lid, then press and hold the setup button on the back of the case for about 15 seconds, until the status light flashes amber, then white.
