How can I copy voice memos from my iPhone to my Mac with a cable?

Greetings,

I have hundreds of voice memos taking up 38 GB of space on my iPhone. How can I copy voice memos from my iPhone to my Mac with a cable? I cannot afford to keep upgrading iCloud.

When I connect my iPhone to my Mac then click it under Locations in the Finder window, the voice memo files do not show anywhere including under Files in the iPhone window.

An Apple support article says files can be transferred that way. Why are the voice memos not showing? How can I copy them?
