Why am I not charged immediately when I buy?

When buying things for an app I play, I may purchase multiple items within days of each other. I get notifications when my bank receives charges. Apple holds some purchases and waits until they feel like it to send the lump charge to my bank. It’s very frustrating.

Can I choose to have all purchases to be submitted immediately?
