what is DCIM

I am trying to upload pictures from my phone to a portable hard drive using my laptop however when I plug my phone in I can not see all my photos, I see a folder titled DCIM

Cannot move iPhone photos to Photo Library on my external hard drive Operating with OS 17.4.1 and up until now it was easy to move photos from iPhone over to the photo library located on my external hard drive. I have been at this for 2 days now and nothing happens. What am I missing? Here's how I have done it before: open external hard drive > open photo library > click on my phone in left side bar > import new photos button and usually the import starts. Nothing occurs, help!

DCIM is the folder that your pictures are stored in. DCIM is an acronym for Digital Camera Images.
