How do I retrieve Apple ID password?

they forgot their Apple ID password and it’s linked to an old phone number which is no longer valid. They can’t reset the phone or put it into account recovery

There is no way to retrieve your Apple ID Password. All you can do is reset it. There are 3 options for doing that in this support article with the last option of doing it on the website. This could take up to 30 days to complete the process to verify your identity.
