Is there a Safe and Legal way to download YouTube Videos on MacBook?

I found a site "Smoothdownloader" where I can see different types of downloaders and converters. So, I can download YouTube videos through this site. But there is a section on this site that, downloading Youtube videos is illegal in some countries and regions. I asked ChatGPT, it says it's really complex to answer. Moreover, I am afraid of installing malware on my Macbook while downloading YouTube videos. So. could anyone say if it is legal to download YouTube videos on my Mac? I am currently in the USA. Also, is there any chance of viruses or malware?

Copyrighted material is subject to copyright law. So what does that mean. Broadly speaking if you intend to view copyrighted content or watch something that is not normally made available to watch for everyone free of charge, you will almost certainly be breaking copyright law.

Irony of ironies since ChatGPT is the essence of breaking copyright law.

Viruses no. Malware yes. But that holds true for nearly everything intended to circumvent digital rights management. Mac malware exists for the exact same reason YouTube exists: to take your money, one way or another.
