Final Cut Pro Pro Res Raw Import

I "upgraded" to FCP 10.7.1. Now importing Pro Res Raw files (directly from the recording SSD) isn't working on this machine. I'm running a Mac mini M1 with 16 gigs of Ram, 512 hard drive. I've tried a clean install of Sonoma and a re-install of FCP to no avail. The attached screenshot shows the file. I get audio. It appears to be on this machine only, as I can import on another Mac mini with no issues. Is the computer shot? It seems to work fine otherwise.

Mac mini, macOS 14.2

I have this issue with an M1 MBP, also.

What camera and MBP?

I think it is worth posting this in the thread linked below where Joema is compiling information to send to Apple about this bug. Same for glacierphoto. Joema has created a write-only Dropbox where you can post sample files and system information. The link has disappeared due to moderation but I am sure he would post it again if requested.

24 fps. (well 23.98)

Ninja V.

As for the Ninja, I have hundreds of Pro Res Raw clips on large drives (both SSD and spinner) and they don't work, either. The only Pro Res Raw imports I get successfully are from clips copied directly to the root drive. I suspect there's a problem with USB ports on the machine... as I can import the same clips on a different M1 Mac mini with the exact same specs.

There is a bug in FCP 10.7 which causes these problems with ProRes Raw. There are at least 3 other threads in the forum about this and there is currently no solution. It appears to affect certain computers only and not others but there is currently no definite discernable pattern. It's got nothing to do with frame resolution, ProRes Raw quality, plugins etc. It affects some files from certain camera/Ninja V combos but not others from the same combo. For example, I've seen reports of Nikon Z6/Ninja files with this problem yet I have loads of Nikon Z6 files and none I've tested show the problem,

I have not seen any difference between files on external SSDs and internal drives as you report - that is new. If they don't work on an external, they don't work on the internal in my experience.

So you are not alone and there is nothing wrong with your computer.

What camera(s) are you using with the Ninja?

Panasonic s1h. I'm also shooting Z9 pro res raw.

I think I'm done with FCP. I work an entire year on this project, now the Pro Res Raw files all have to be converted to something else and edited in Resolve. Thanks Apple!

The Z9 appears to consistently show this issue as well as the Z8. Presumably you are seeing the same problem with the Z9 as with the Panasonic.

There was a report in another thread of problems with 6K Panasonic/Ninja but not 4K from the same camera apparently.

Resolve has lots of bugs of its own. I tend to shoot NRAW now, grade in Resolve and edit in FCP.
