New phone not receiving texts

I just got a new iphone yet texts are sending to my old phone and not my new one. I can still talk and text with my new phone but the other one usually is the one receiving texts. After I send a message with my new phone to someone the messages start sending only to my new phone. But people who I haven’t sent a message to yet are being sent to my old phone. I noticed in iCloud that I have this phone is set to receive messages thru my phone number but my old phone is set thru iCloud could that have some part to play?
