Linking table and charts on Pages Document

I'm creating a habit tracker and I'd like to able to track information in a table in Pages Document, and then have that information automatically added to a line chart. This particular idea is for a Run Tracker. So, on the table in Pages, I'll write out my date, distance, speed, and calories burned. Then on the Chart, I'd like to use a formula to capture that information and represent it on graph.

However, in the table, when I select "Edit Chart Data" there is no option for Formulas, and when I try to use the dropdown menu they're greyed out.

The use case is I'm creating a Bullet Journal for myself for 2024 and want to be able to have these tables and charts interactive throughout the year.

Maybe I'm getting too fancy. I've seen it done in Numbers by a colleague who used to work for Apple and he did it over multiple worksheets. But I'm creating this in a Pages document where I have my planner and would like to have it all represented in the same document.

Hello again,

In Numbers, it is possible to expand a table to automatically include further data in a graph (if the selected data include whole columns).

Table 1 has some nonsense made-up data.

Two more rows of nonsense made-up data added to the table.

Please call back with questions.

Ian.

Hi LSASL,

I find that creating charts (graphs) in Pages to be a royal pain in the posterior.

We must enter our data from our Pages table into the Graph Data editor (that shows by default a Region by Month sales table. Golly gosh! Really useful!)

I suggest that you create your table in Numbers. Use that table to create your graph, copy the graph and then paste into a Pages document. The graph will carry your data into the Pages Graph Data editor.

I do not know how, in Pages, you can make tables and charts interactive throughout the year. Perhaps Pages is not the best app for your aim.

Ian
