Speakers mute other person during calls if my mic picks up sound at my end

Hi there, I’ve noticed that on WhatsApp and FaceTime calls, my speaker stops playing if my microphone detects a sound. It’s as though some audio setting is set to simplex and won’t allow both parties to be speaking at the same time.

Apparently others found that disabling noise cancellation in the accessibility settings addressed this, but research tells me the iPhone 13 series doesn’t have this feature.

It’s very disruptive to have the other person’s voice cut off if I speak or make a sound my end that cuts over them - anyone experienced this?

iPhone 13 mini, iOS 17
