What formula will give me positive and negative results in Numbers?

Columns B and C change each month. Is there a formula that will result in a negative number to show up in column D when column B is higher than column C and a positive number to show in column D when column B is lower than column C?

I tried to include an image but is says content is not allowed.

Sandi,

Simple arithmetic expression will give you what you want.

In column D, write: =C3-B3 for the column you have highlighted. Then, if B3 is larger than C3 the result will be negative.

The IF-expression that you have in D3 now is virtually the same as the ABS function. It will always give you a positive result.
