How to add stops to walking directions?

I am a tourist and want to plan my walking route between the different attractions. I see that Apple Maps allows me to add stops for CAR directions, but the “Add Stop” disappears when switching to walking directions. Is this a bug? It makes no sense to me. I also tried adding everything while in car directions and then switching over to walking directions - all but the first stop gets erased :-(

Any advice/suggestions are appreciated.

I have exactly the same issue, so I use Google Maps. Apple Maps is just not good enough so it's impossible to add walking stops. Very frustrating, as I enjoy receiving haptic instructions on my watch or spoken instructions via my earpods.

Come on Apple. It's a simple requirement.

Hello,

Indeed it does not seem like a bug but rather an intentional choice… But this choice is really unfortunate!

Juste to make it clear, here is the problem I have (really similar to the original question): when setting a direction in car route mode, there is a button « add stop » that works just fine. When switching to other modes though (bike mode in my case), the button disappears. And trying to add stops in car mode, then switching to bike mode just removes the added stop.

It is like in bike mode, stops are still a list (you can swap the departure and the end point), but unlike in car mode, the list is constrained to have only two elements.

So, I am trying not to let my frustration speak but it is a bit complicated since tjwolf reported a true issue that should just be fixed (from a consumer point of view there is no good reason that this « add stop » button disappears when switching mode) and you’re answering « no no, everything is fine »

By the way, the solution you mentioned, in addition to being not straightforward, does not work for me or I don’t understand it.

Thanks for reading.

You should definitely let Apple know your thoughts here:

Hi tjwolf, it's not a Bug you can start by restarting the Map on your iPhone and also follow this guide below

  1. Tap the route card at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Tap Add Stop, then tap a category.
  3. Tap Add for one of the nearby suggestions.
  4. To get directions again to your original destination, tap Resume Route at the top of the screen.

This does not work on desktop. I don't care about iphone or ipad. I want to build a walking map and it will not let me do it with desktop. It is a bug--"feature"

So, try a different mapping application.

And, let Apple know what you'd like to see here:

As a general rule, you'll get better help if you post in the forum for the device you're using. Even though you're talking about Maps, the apps can be different on different platforms.
