iPadOS 17.0.3 and iPadAir 2 15.8

I have been give for Xmas an iPad Air 2.

i have already got an iPadOS 17.0.3.

Is this an upgrade on my old iPad?

No.

A 2014 iPad Air 2 is forever stuck to some version of iPadOS 15, currently at iPadOS 15.8.

A 2014 iPad Air 2 is too old, but third party apps, from the Apple App Store, are still supported for another year, or so.

Third party app support continues for another 3 years, or so, AFTER Apple ends full OS support for a subset of their devices.
