Unsync iCloud Photos from iPad, but keep on connected devices

I need to unsync iCloud Photos from being on my iPad because I have no storage left. My iPad is on another iCloud account that has a ton of photos and videos, so I don’t want to delete any of that, including ones that were taken on my iPad. Is the unsync iCloud Photos in settings option the right way to do it? I just need to not have all those photos on my iPad but keep them on other devices.
